Inclusion Strategies

Developing new strategies which effectively support students of determination in innovative and new ways can be difficult. Lack of support, funds or time can often create barriers. However, the Middle East is at the forefront of developing new initiatives, we wanted to share one of them with you to provide some inspiration.

The “Atmah” Program

Earlier this year Aldar Education along with other partners launched a new pilot vocational training program. The “Atmah” program has been designed to provide students of determination with employment skills to help them secure permanent jobs in the future. This is the first program of its kind launched in Abu Dhabi using the mechanism of a Social Impact Bond, a way to finance the delivery of public services which is internationally recognised. It will support 25 students in learning life and vocational skills and provide them with work placements ahead of full employment when they complete the program.

The partnership involving government, a social investor and a social service provider will bring together a group of organisations most effective for solving this social challenge. It works on a pay-for-success basis, where social service providers are free to design their own innovative solutions to deliver the social outcome, in this case employment and life skills for pupils of determination.

Kate McMillan, Group Head of Inclusion & Safeguarding at Aldar Education, will be supporting the provision of developing the curriculum and teachers to deliver the program. Kate will be sharing the latest updates on how the program is progressing as well as how it’s delivering meaningful outcomes for current students of determination at our conference in November and in exclusive blog post next week.

Kate will be speaking alongside Sir Michael Wilshaw, Dame Rachel de Souza DBE, Sir Anthony Seldon and  many more. Find out more: https://outstandingschoolsme.com/wellbeing-inclusion/
