Dr Paul Magnuson

Dr Paul Magnuson has spent more than a decade creating research centers at the high school level for teacher professional development through action research. His interests include teacher and student agency, language teaching and learning, pulling agile into education, and professional development for school faculty.

Paul is a speaker at international conferences and events, a blogger on innovative and progressive education, and a published author in the areas of agile in education and professional development. His current projects include:

  • scaling the bottom-up model of professional development of Leysin American School to international schools in other countries;
  • recording the first podcasts in innovative teaching (in intermediate English) to assist Taiwan in meeting its 2030 goal of greater multilingualism and English proficiency; and
  • developing and teaching an online course in constructed languages – as a self-directed study of language – for high school students.

Paul works at Leysin American School in French-speaking Switzerland, where he lives with his family. Online he teaches in the initial licensure and masters programs of Moreland University, based in Washington, DC. He writes in his free time; his fourth children’s book will be released in 2023 and, if all goes well, his first collection of short stories for adults in 2024.

His doctorate is in curriculum & instruction from the University of Minnesota. Paul is a certified Scrum Master and has also studied TESOL, German, philosophy, and music, as well as several languages with the help of Duolingo and complex adaptive systems through the Santa Fe Institute of Complexity.
