Overview

The Care Act requires all housing providers to have clear operational policies and procedures in place to safeguard adults. With the Mental Capacity (Amendment) Bill seeking to replace Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLs), alongside changes to domestic violence policy, this course is timed to provide up-to-date guidance on safeguarding adults.

Attend this Effective Safeguarding in Housing course to gain knowledge on recognising and reporting safeguarding concerns including declining mental health, domestic violence and self-neglect.

Through workshops, discussion and analysis of relevant scenarios, learn techniques to effectively provide high quality support to vulnerable tenants and create a safeguarding culture within your organisation.

Develop an efficient approach towards identifying hoarding in your housing association
Understand how to work with tenants who self-neglect and hoard to develop a plan for improving their safety and quality of life

Developing an Effective Strategy to Identify and Prevent Domestic Abuse

This interactive session will give delegates the opportunity to ask questions and discuss strategies for identifying and responding to domestic abuse

Establish clear guidelines of how staff should respond to domestic abuse and address fears around confidentiality
Develop an approach that will allow your staff to identify early signs of domestic abuse through factors such as repairs and anti-social behaviour reports
Create a culture that encourages staff to be proactive in identifying and addressing domestic abuse
Consider how recent changes to domestic violence policy will affect safeguarding housing policy

Workshop: Multi-Agency Working and Information Sharing

Delegates will engage in a Chair facilitated open-class discussion and formulate strategies for working in partnership and sharing information across departments and organisations

Learn how developing an effective multi-agency approach will create more efficient safeguarding procedures
Understand how to comply with confidentiality, whilst still fulfilling your moral and legal responsibilities
Establish clear and efficient joint working protocols
Incorporate best practice examples of multi-agency working into your organisation’s safeguarding strategy

Workshop: Making Safeguarding Personal

Work with the Chair to develop an action plan for creating personal safeguarding approaches

Interactive session which allows you to gain insight into the different strategies organisations adopt in order to create a personal safeguarding practice
Work with the Chair to identify possible areas of weakness in safeguarding approaches
Identify and evaluate your own implementation of the Care Act, monitor your impact, going beyond compliance, and incorporate best practice into your own strategies
Use real life scenarios to assess and analyse best practice
